Daemon

A daemon is a computer program or process that is not controlled by the user and runs in the background. The backronym Disk And Execution MONitor was introduced when the term daemon gained popularity.
Its primary role is to provide a response to one or more requests from a network, hardware or program. Daemons operate at the time of computer startup and during the loading of an operating system.
