DDoS

« Back to Glossary Index

Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks aim to make a server, a service or an infrastructure unavailable. The attack can take various forms: it can be, among others, a saturation of the bandwidth of the server to make it unreachable, or a depletion of the system resources of the machine to prevent it from responding to legitimate traffic.

During such an attack, a multitude of requests are sent simultaneously from multiple sources on the Web.

Hackers have specialized in creating armies of “zombies”, which they can then rent to other people or malicious groups to attack a particular target.

PlanetHoster offers protection against network DDoS attacks as part of its IT outsourcing mandate.
