A website migration is offered free of charge with the purchase of a PlanetHoster service on an annual plan.
The article covers:
- the details of the migration process;
- the steps to ensure a smooth transition; and
- the criteria for taking advantage of the offer.
Terms and Conditions
As explained on our website, there is a time limit for completing the migration. After that, any additional time will be billed in accordance with PlanetHoster’s technical support terms and conditions.
Migrations are done as a courtesy and PlanetHoster cannot be held responsible for any malfunction. It is understood that the customer commits himself to take the necessary measures on his side if the configuration requires particular expertises or interventions external to our services.
Email migration is available under certain conditions only. The following self-service tool is available at all times: https://imapcopy.planethoster.com/en/ (please refer to the article Copy Emails from an IMAP Server to a PlanetHoster Server).
Procedure
The migration process is summarized on the PlanetHoster website (How can I migrate my existing site to PlanetHoster?).
First and foremost, you should avoid waiting until the last minute. That is why we recommend that you start the process early—about 10 business days before the deadline.
Here are the steps to follow:
- Order the hosting annual service from PlanetHoster for your Web Project. Please refer to the article describing the procedure to follow depending of your preferred product:
- After completing your payment, enter the following address in your web browser: https://my.planethoster.com.
- Open a ticket (see the article How to Create Tickets) and provide the following information:
- Domain name related to your content (this is the main domain of your Web Project).
- FTP or SSH/SFTP access (with port used if different from 22) for content migration.
- Access to the database (phpMyAdmin, etc.).
- Access to the control panel if applicable (cPanel, Plesk, directadmin, etc.).
- Access to the domain name for DNS modification.
- Access to the customer area of the former hosting company (optional). It is important to make sure that there is no double authentication to avoid processing delays.
Please make sure the information you provide is accurate. If you have multiple directories, please provide us with as much information as possible to avoid delays, confusion, and errors.
Certain conditions can affect migration:
- Presence of malicious files.
- The required version is too old, which may pose a risk to data security.
- Custom-built source code requiring a developer to make it work.
- Previous hosting provider is unavailable or uncooperative.
- IP update required for payment modules. For example: Atos.
- Force majeure. For example: COVID-19, Ebola, earthquake, etc.
- Unforeseen issues attributable to the redesign.
Criteria
This offer does not apply when you downgrade your PlanetHoster services. It applies only when you upgrade to a higher-tier plan or service.
For example, the offer would not apply when upgrading from a HybridCloud dedicated plan to The World plan.
Prior to the 2026 overhaul, PlanetHoster offered a free migration based on resources.1 Now that the Web Projects approach has been implemented, this concept of allocated resources is no longer relevant. The criteria will therefore be documented shortly.
