How to Modify the DNS Servers of a IONOS Domain to Point Towards PlanetHoster

Introduction

In some circumstances, it may be worthwhile to keep a domain registered with IONOS, while having their DNS servers changed to point to PlanetHoster’s. This can happen, for example, when you want to host your site and mailboxes at PlanetHoster while keeping your domain name hosted with IONOS.

In this article, we will explain how to do this.

It may take up to 24 hours for the change to be fully implemented.

How to Modify the DNS Servers

  1. Connect to your IONOS account.
  2. On the line corresponding to the domain to update, click on the gear icon under the Actions column and select Name Server.
  3. Click Use Custom Name Servers.
  4. Enter the desired name servers in the Name Server 1 and Name Server 2 fields.
  5. you can enter two additional external name servers in the Name Server 3 and Name Server 4 fields.
  6. Click on Save.
