How to Manage HybridCloud Resources

In this article, we introduce the interface that provides an overview of the total resources for your Web Projects on each HybridCloud dedicated server. We also explain how you can manage the resources allocated to each Web Project and request additional resources as needed.

This article contains some information that applies only to a version of the product prior to the redesign.

The PlanetHoster Glossary contains explanations on multiple topics and can be consulted to clarify certain terms.

Prerequisites

Enter the following address in your web browserhttps://my.planethoster.com.

Sometimes a pop-up window is blocked. If a message like “Pop-up blocked” is displayed, close the pop-up blocker, as explained in the article Authorize Pop-ups.

Interface “Hybrid Cloud (dedicated)”

  1. Go to My HostingsResource managementHybridCloud (Dedicated).
  2. When you click on the desired HybridCloud dedicated server, an interface with that server’s name will appear. Note the specifications for each dedicated server: Infrastructure, Datacenter, Type, Control Panel and Status:
  1. The interface is divided into two sections.
  • The upper section (which we will refer to as the Resource Management Interface) allows you to view the distribution of resources allocated to all of your dedicated Web Projects on this server, as well as a few other features (services, etc.):
  • The lower section is used to perform Resource allocation:

In the following paragraphs, we will explain all of this in detail.

Resource Management Interface

Data and Statistics on Resources

The top section of the interface displays statistics related to the distribution of resources allocated to all of your dedicated web projects on the server:

Definitions :

  • CPU refers to the maximum number of cores in the hosting plan’s microprocessor.
  • Memory refers to the maximum amount of RAM in GB.
  • Disk I/O refers to the speed in MB/s at which data can be read from or written to the server’s storage, which affects load times and performance.
  • Storage is the maximum amount of storage space in GB.
    • Used indicates the amount of storage space currently in use.
    • Free indicates the remaining storage space (unused or available).

The CPU, Memory, and Storage percentages are all calculated by averaging 12 specific metrics. By default, 12 data points covering the past 12 hours are used for these calculations.

Thus:

  • For the CPU, the calculated percentage corresponds to the average of twelve ratios between the number of cores used by the Web Project and the maximum number of cores available on the hosting plan.
  • For Memory, the calculated percentage corresponds to the average of twelve ratios between the RAM used by the Web Projects and the maximum amount of RAM.
  • For Storage, the calculated percentage corresponds to the average of twelve ratios between the currently used storage and the maximum storage capacity.

Detailed Resource Statistics

You can refine the accuracy of the data by clicking the “Detailed Statistics” button in the upper-right corner:

This takes you to the Statistics interface:

The /home Usage and /root Usage partitions are two partitions on the disk. The /root partition is primarily used for client databases or the LiteSpeed acceleration cache. The /home partition contains the directories that users can access via their file manager, FTP, etc.

Whether for CPU, Memory, Storage, /home Usage, or /root Usage, the data displayed on the chart depends on the user’s selection. Users can set the time range using the DURATION dropdown menu. They can also specify the number of data points used to calculate the percentage using the PRECISION dropdown menu.

DATA POINTS also define the specific points in time when the data is displayed. Simply hover your cursor over the desired statistic to view the details with greater clarity, as shown below:

Mail Queue

The Mail Queue lets you manage emails from your contacts that are still waiting to be processed:

The “Flush Mailqueue” and “Flush Deferred Emails” buttons can help you manage this.

LVE Informations

LVE (Lightweight Virtual Environment) is a CloudLinux kernel-level virtualization technology. It limits resources (CPU, memory, I/O) per user to prevent a single website from affecting the entire server.

LVE information is displayed so that you can easily track it:

Services

The services available with the HybridCloud Web Project are also displayed in the top interface:

This way, you can see whether each service is active or not.

Note the button that allows you to restart a specific service if necessary:

CageFS

CageFS is enabled by default for all users on your server.

If you need to restore a user’s default permissions, simply select them from the drop-down list and click the “Remount CageFS” button:

Uptime

The displayed uptime is measured from the last time the server was restarted:

Restarting the Server

To restart the server:

  1. Click on the Restart button:
  1. You will have to do a Restart confirmation:
  1. Enter the reason for the restart in the “Reason” field.
  2. Click the “Submit” button.

Resource Allocation

At the bottom of the interface, the resources for each Web Project are displayed next to it:

Search to View Specific Web Projects

When you enter keywords associated with Web Projects in the Search field, the Web Projects are immediately displayed under Resource allocation:

Modifying the Resources Allocated to One or More Web Projects

When the message “You do not have enough resources to create a new hosting account” appears, you can avoid having to purchase additional resources—and the associated costs—by adjusting the resources allocated to one or more Web Projects.

  1. Click the Edit icon (shaped like a pencil) next to the Web Project whose resources you want to edit:
  1. Adjust the Web Project resources using the sliders (allocated resources are displayed in blue, next to the maximum allowed for each):
  1. Click on the Save button.
  2. A message confirming that the information has been saved will then appear on the screen.

Warning! If you set up an unlimited Web Project, it may cause the server to crash for a variety of reasons (infinite loops, brute-force attacks, and more).

Securing Additional Resources

Sometimes, the entire global resource pool has been allocated to one or more Web Projects in your portfolio, in which case a message will appear. The interface allows you to obtain additional resources. To do so:

  1. Click the “Order more resources” button:
  1. This will take you to the Billing & Payments -> Hosting -> HybridCloud N0C window, where you can increase your resources as needed and pay the invoice (please refer to the HybridCloud : Getting Started Guide for details).
